Lot 374 Description
A circa 1890 J. K. Starley & Co., 'Rover' lady's Safety Bicycle. A rare survivor of the genre, indeed this machine may be the only known example extant. In the collection of the late Bill Bush for many years, this bicycle is finished in brown with yellow box lining, bright work is nickel-plated and the saddle cover is leather. The 24-inch original rims are in situ and are currently fitted with solid rubber tyring, the metal and canvas chain guard has been nicely restored, as has the skirt-guard and correctly mounted mudguards. Also featured are the correct front wheel, lever operated spoon brake, coil-spring lamp bracket and up-turned handlebars with cork grips.
Estimate: £3,000 - 4,000
