'The London Bicycle Club 100 Miles Trial Road Medallion'. A large bronze cycling medal awarded to C.T. PRICE Whit Monday 1897 5' 52" (five hours, fifty-two minutes). Contained in its original blue velvet-lined presentation case (now distressed a little), the medal was infrequently given and probably represented a significant achievement at the time with an average of over 18mph on a bicycle. The medal depicts in raised relief the aforementioned wording and a rider on his Ordinary, centrally positioned. The LBC was founded in 1874 and was one of the most famous early clubs. Previously known as The London Amateur Bicycle Club, which had grown out of the Tension Bicycle Club, the word 'amateur' was dropped in 1874. Very good original condition save for a little rubbing to the highlights and bruising on the top edge. 4-inchs (10.5cms) diameter.
