A Regency brass and red tortoiseshell circular inkstand, in the manner of George Bullock, the circular contre-partie inlaid dish with design of scrolling foliage, centered with a rectangular pen tray flanked by two circular wells for cut glass ink pots (now missing), 39.5cm (15.5") diameter/Note: George Bullock (died 1818) of Liverpool and London, was a sculpture and designer who came to fame after the move of his Grecian Rooms, Liverpool to London's Piccadilly in 1812. Queen Charlotte visited his Piccadilly rooms in 1812 and is thought to be the inspiration behind the design of the circular boulle inkstand, indeed amongst her effects at a later sale was a "very sumptuous circular inkstand of the late George Bullock's buhl manufacture". Bullock was commissioned by the Prince Regent to supply furniture for Napoleon's quarters on the island of St Helena worthy of a General's rank/The pattern for this form of inkstand survives on the Bullock Wilkinson tracings in The Birmingham City Museum and Art Gallery (M3.74)/An inkstand of similar design was sold at Christie's on April 23rd 2009, Lot 1
