Lot 73 Description

An Indian tiger skin trophy (felis tigris)
Full head mount with canvas backing; together with a photograph inscribed to verso Tiger and assistants for the "shoot", a very dangerous thing as the tigers are very clever!; and a further note inscribed Lieutenant Colonel Gerard Burton (British Army in India) shot this female tiger in Central Province, India in 1932, about 100 miles from Nagpur, she was 9ft 7 1/2 in fresh (day she was shot), 11 ft 6 1/2 in. skinned (the skin stretches when it is scraped clean on the inside). She had killed and eaten humans, she was therefore a "man eater" and allowed to be shot. 337 cms long.
