Lot 17 Description

A Great War and Second World War DSO group of twelve awarded to Commander Richard Lloyd Hamer, later Captain (retired) (1884-1951)
Comprising: Distinguished Service Order for Highly Successful Command and Leadership During Active Operations, Naval General Service Medal (1915 NGSM) with Persian Gulf 1909-1914 clasp for Operations Against Pirates, Gun Runners and Slavers, 1914-1915 Star, British War Medal, Victory Medal, Order of the Nile with Officer ribbon bar by Lattes of Cairo, 1939-45 Star, Atlantic Star, Africa Star with North Africa 1942-43 clasp, Italy Star, War Medal 1939-1945, and Royal Humane Society Successful Rescue small medal; The Naval General Service Medal inscribed Lieut Com RL Hamer RN HMS Swiftsure, the 1914-15 Star inscribed Flag Lt Commr RL Hamer RN, the British War Medal inscribed Commr RL Hamer RN, the Victory Medal inscribed Commr RL Hamer RN, and The Royal Humane Society Successful Rescue Small Medal inscribed Commdr RL Hamer RN and dated 14th February 1920.

Note: Commander Hamer was awarded his DSO on the 3rd December 1940 for courage and resource in successful attacks on enemy submarines when Captain (retired) commander of HMS Bulolo, an armed merchant cruiser, between 15th October 1940 to 20th December 1943.
