The Grand National, 1931, a silver gilt twin handled trophy cup, hallmarked London 1930, maker's mark of Wakely & Wheeler
Standing on an ebonised plinth base with silver plaque inscribed Rider's Cup, Grand National Steeplechase 1931, won by Mr C Taylor' Grakle, time 9 minutes 32 and 4/5th seconds, ridden by R.V. Lyall and with inset medallion for Brown & Son, Silversmiths, Chester; a silver vesta, hallmarked Glasgow 1930, maker's mark of Lindsay & Paisley Limited, inscribed to one side Grakle 1931, opposing engraved signatures of Cecil R Taylor, Tom Caulthwaite and Robert V Lyall; a cut glass twin handled vase with shield shaped cartouche engraved with Robert V Lyall's monogram and dated 1931; a racing silk depicting Grakle as winner of the Grand National in 1931, carrying 11st 7 lbs, ridden by R. Lyall and owned by Mr C R Taylor; together with the original racing number 6; and two photographs entitled Grand National 1931, passing winning post and Grand National 1931, Grakle, the winner, both framed and glazed. The cup 35.5 cms high overall.
