A portrait miniature of Admiral Earl Nelson by James Sillett and after Lemuel Francis Abbott Watercolour and bodycolour on ivory, mounted in an oval verre eglomise border and ebonised frame. The portrait 7.5 x 5.75 cms.
Note: This miniature portrays Nelson with the Star of the Order of the Bath and one medal and represents one of the earliest representations of Nelson by Abbott. Sillett painted other members of the Nelson family, circa 1799. These came into the collection of L. Stuart-Stanley and now are in the Castle Museum, Norwich.
Sillett was a member of the Norwich School of painters working on a broad spectrum of projects including heraldic painting, stage scene painting, as well as detailed miniatures.
