Jonathan Crinion was born in Liverpool, England, in 1953. Educated in architecture and industrial design at Carleton University and the University of Toronto, he founded Crinion Associates, an Industrial Design consulting firm in 1983. The CC41 mark was used as a sign that furniture produced during the war and just after conform to 'Utility' standards. The letters stand for Civilian Clothing but were also used on furniture to demonstrate that the design was simple and made the best use of available materials.
