Cornet, Janvier 1890; a view of the Drackenfels; a Caricature Study attributed to Henry Glindoni; a heraldic crest; further figure studies; and three woodblock figure studies in the manner of Sir William Nicholson, each signed with initials 'J.A.' dated 1911 and on one sheet, 3 1/2" tondo.

475 JOHN BEEBY (DESIGNER, ILLUMINATOR AND ENGRAVER) - An advertising piece for the aforementioned art designer/engraver, decorated with three roundels filled with monogram samples and crests within finely drawn floral motifs in ink and colour washes, each roundel in turn with calligraphic script, the centre with printed label inscribed "John Beeby engraver, designer and printer, Newcastle on Tyne, 1873", 17" tondo.

\Donald Southern was a friend of Edward Horace Thompson (1879-1949) who also used the pseudonym Donald A Paton. It is believed that Thompson may have helped Southern by signing some of his own paintings with Southern's name and it is possible this is the case in these two works..

ote: Robert Pell was born in Northampton, he studied at the School of Art there from 1944-49, then at Camberwell School of Art, 1964. Pembrokeshire and Cornwall were favourite sketching places of his and he showed at the Leicester and Piccadilly Galleries, RBA of which he was a made a member in 1958 and Warwick University, (Extract taken from David Buckman, 'The Dictionary of Artists in Britain since 1945'.)
